ACTIVITIES

We offer tailored services to help public organisations, businesses and associations explore their futures and revisit their present.

Scénarios & expériences de design fiction

Design Fiction
scenarios & experiences

We create fictions, artefacts, and experiences that help prepare for tomorrow.

Our Design Fiction productions are guided by a common thread: anticipating possible futures, questioning alternatives to the present, and renewing collective imaginaries. Their embodied storytelling helps organisations and publics to better grasp the uncertainty, complexity, and controversy inherent in ongoing transitions and future disruptions.

Whether exploring the evolution of technologies, an industry sector, or a territory, our work sheds light on blind spots, vulnerabilities, and risks, as well as unexpected opportunities and levers for change. Each of our f(r)ictions seeks to critically and ethically illuminate both societal debates and the strategic or operational choices of public and private stakeholders.

Our expertise in storytelling and prototyping draws on a cross-disciplinary skill set:

  • Telling transformations through futures fictions and uchronia.
  • Prototyping speculative artefacts – objects and visuals that facilitate projection and dialogue between stakeholders.
  • Developing immersive experiences for future exploration: fictional pitches and feedback from tomorrow’s organisations, participatory exhibitions that stage and interrogate change, guided tours of the futures.
  • Enhancing the visual and narrative impact of strategic foresight studies to increase engagement and accessibility.

For each scenario, a little extra ‘grit in the oyster’ is on the house!

Ateliers et formats participatifs

Workshops
& participatory formats

We facilitate Design Fiction and creative foresight workshops, designed for participatory approaches to the futures.

We firmly believe that exploring new horizons is, above all, a collective exercise. This is why our workshops are conceived as spaces that encourage encounters and the expression of diverse perspectives.

Ranging from one hour to a full week, and tailored for groups of 3 to over 100 participants, each workshop is custom-designed. We adapt our methods according to the objectives, audiences, and specific contexts. Facilitation is handled by our studio and/or by facilitators we have specifically trained.

Our expertise in co-Design Fiction and participatory futures integrates seamlessly into foresight strategies, collaborative innovation processes, and change management initiatives, through:

  • Discussion sessions to debate the desirability of possible trajectories.
  • Co-storytelling and co-prototyping workshops to collaboratively narrate and/or model alternative futures – starting from a blank slate or pre-existing scenarios.
  • Collective analysis formats to map out existing imaginaries or identify threats and opportunities arising from transitions or systemic shocks.
  • Walkshops, with narrative explorations that reveal weak signals and emerging traces of the futures already present around us.

We are committed to designing accessible formats that include non-expert audiences and those distant from decision-making processes.

Outillage spéculatif

Speculactive tools

We design toolkits that enable the exploration of new futures and their translation into present-day action.

Designed for a ready-to-use application, our tools take various forms to sharpen imagination and critical thinking: future boxes, speculation cards, fiction matrices, and futures scenarios analysis exercises.

Our expertise in developing ‘speculactive’ tools serves the needs of public organisations, purpose-driven businesses, and committed associations seeking projection, reflection, and inspiration for:

  • Identifying emerging frictions and co-constructing shared visions to address them.
  • Spreading and democratising a culture of foresight and anticipation within teams or among key stakeholders.
  • Bridging fiction and action by leveraging future scenarios to inform decisions and initiatives today.
  • Supporting the dissemination and mediation of strategic, scientific, or foresight publications, internally within organisations or for public engagement.

At the heart of our approach: creating tools that bring people together and foster autonomy, ensuring they remain impactful even without our direct facilitation.

Recherche-création

Research-creation

We support research stakeholders in developing new protocols and knowledge, blending scientific rigour with the inventiveness of design.

In collaboration with university laboratories and R&D departments, we contribute to experiments at the intersection of science and design (fiction). From science and technology studies to engineering branches exploring disruptive technologies – such as biotechnology, autonomous systems or quantum computing – we assist researchers in developing anticipatory methods where creation and critical reflection fuel each other.

We are particularly driven to support multidisciplinary experiments that encourage dialogue between experiences and expertise; helping to question current socio-technical and socio-political systems as wells as their possible applications and evolutions.

Our research-creation approach integrates into key phases of the scientific process:

  • Exploring and framing emerging issues.
  • Testing hypotheses and documenting phenomena.
  • Expressing, disseminating, and promoting knowledge.

We also conduct research-creation on Design Fiction itself, freely experimenting with new speculative and projective formats to better understand both its potential and its limitations. We openly share our findings in publications, contributing to both practice and critical discourse.

Sensibilisation au design fiction

Foresight awareness

We share our insights and reflections on Design Fiction and anticipation practices, enabling organisations and educational institutions to embrace these approaches.

We speak at professional conferences, industry seminars, expert panels, and public festivals, introducing the core principles of Design Fiction and exploring its potential applications in design-led anticipation. We also facilitate roundtables and expert panels, providing deeper discussions on specific transformation themes or future-oriented practices.

Our formats are tailored to the audience, whether local authorities, businesses, or educational institutions. We offer illustrative talks that introduce the concepts, tools, and mindsets of Design Fiction and speculative futures, providing an initial familiarisation with the anticipation and storytelling of transformations.

As part of this knowledge-sharing commitment, we also share our experiences – both successes and failures – with design schools, universities, and training centres, helping to spread these methodologies to the next generation of practitioners.

To translate theory into practice, our talks are often accompanied by mini-workshops, allowing participants to experiment with Design Fiction and creative foresight in small groups. These hands-on sessions explore inspiring and pivotal topics, such as digital disruptions, the new socio-ecological contract, democratic evolutions, and organisational transformations.

Game Design Fiction

Game Design Fiction

We combine playful mediation and Design Fiction to create experiences that invite participants to play, replay, and counterplay futures.

With our Game Design Fiction concept, we bring possible futures into play by merging the speculative projection of Design Fiction with the interactivity and engagement of gaming.

This playful and inclusive framework effectively engages non-expert audiences in future-thinking. By mediating futures through play, we aim to strengthen imagination and anticipation skills, both individually and collectively.

Our Game Design Fiction expertise adapts to different contexts and challenges:

  • Cards and board games to co-design near or distant futures scenarios.
  • Role-playing games to rehearse transformations and anticipate crises before they unfold.
  • Video games and escape games to navigate between different scenarios and time horizons.

Game Design Fiction is at the heart of our expertise, as well as our internal research and development programme. We continuously explore new implementations of this concept to emerging strategic and societal transformations.
